Analog FX Lab
Analog FX Lab is a third-party Cavalry Filter for realistic VHS signal processing and CRT display emulation. It combines the soft color response, tape instability, and noise of analog video with the scanlines, phosphor structure, curvature, and bloom of a CRT display.
The VHS and CRT sections work independently, so Analog FX Lab can be used for a clean display treatment, a degraded tape look, or a complete VHS-to-CRT signal chain.
Main features
VHS signal processing
Analog FX Lab separates luminance and chrominance behavior instead of relying on a generic RGB split. The result includes directional chroma bleed, luma softness, restrained color degradation, multi-scale tape noise, horizontal time-base instability, and head-switching noise.
CRT display simulation
The CRT section adds curved-screen geometry, overscan, scanlines, an RGB aperture grille, brightness compensation, adjustable black level, compact phosphor bloom, vignette, and animated rolling distortion.
Resolution-aware display detail
The Use CRT Resolution option samples the source at the simulated display resolution. Edges and fine detail then conform to the scanline and grille structure instead of remaining perfectly sharp beneath an overlay.
Automatic motion
Jitter, tape noise, and rolling distortion connect to the current composition frame when the Filter is created. Each time input remains available for independent expressions or custom timing.
Reliable edge handling
Auto, Clamp, and Transparent edge modes support both isolated artwork and full-frame layers. The Filter also expands its working bounds to preserve displaced, blurred, and curved detail around isolated layers.
